Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP)
A Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) provides a holistic, integrated strategy for managing the full range of biodiversity values on a site. Unlike a Vegetation Management Plan which focuses specifically on vegetation, a BMP addresses the broader ecological picture — including fauna habitat management, connectivity, threatened species, waterway health, and long-term ecological resilience.
When Is a BMP Required?
A Biodiversity Management Plan is commonly required for large-scale developments with significant biodiversity values, biodiversity offset sites and stewardship agreements, mine sites and major infrastructure projects, conservation areas and land managed under environmental zoning, and projects with complex consent conditions spanning multiple ecological issues.
BMPs are also valuable as a proactive tool for landowners and organisations wanting to manage their land's ecological values responsibly and strategically.
What Our BMPs Cover
Our Biodiversity Management Plans are comprehensive, site-specific documents that typically include a detailed baseline ecological assessment covering vegetation, fauna, habitat features, and connectivity, identification and mapping of key biodiversity values and management zones, specific management actions for vegetation, threatened species, pest animals, weeds, fire, and hydrology, measurable performance targets and monitoring indicators, an adaptive management framework that allows strategies to be refined based on monitoring results, and clear implementation responsibilities, timelines, and reporting requirements.
A Practical, Integrated Approach
We develop BMPs that are practical and achievable, not just compliance documents. Our plans are built on solid field data and designed to deliver real ecological outcomes. We work with developers, mining companies, government agencies, and private landowners to create management strategies that balance ecological objectives with operational realities.
With experience across urban fringe developments, mining landscapes, and conservation lands throughout NSW, we bring a practical understanding of what works on the ground.
