Vegetation Management Plan (VMP)
A Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) is a practical, action-oriented document that outlines how vegetation on a development site will be protected, managed, and restored. It is commonly required as a condition of development consent and provides a clear roadmap for achieving ecological outcomes during and after construction.
When Is a VMP Required?
Councils and consent authorities across NSW frequently require a VMP as a condition of approval for developments that impact native vegetation. This is especially common for residential subdivisions adjoining bushland, infrastructure projects near riparian corridors or significant vegetation, developments with biodiversity offset or conservation requirements, and projects involving bush regeneration or revegetation as part of their approval conditions.
What Our VMPs Include
We develop VMPs that are clear, implementable, and designed to meet your consent conditions. Each plan typically includes a detailed baseline assessment of existing vegetation condition, specific management actions with measurable performance targets and timeframes, weed control strategies tailored to the site's weed species and infestation levels, revegetation and planting plans using locally sourced native species, a monitoring program with defined success criteria, and clear responsibilities and reporting requirements for all parties involved.
Practical Plans That Work
A VMP is only useful if it can actually be implemented on the ground. We focus on creating plans that are realistic, cost-effective, and achievable — not overly academic documents that sit on a shelf. Our plans are informed by extensive field experience in bushland management across Sydney, the Hunter, Central Coast, and Illawarra, and we tailor every plan to the specific conditions and constraints of your site.
We also provide ongoing support including site inspections and monitoring reports to track progress against your performance targets.
